  • Gold ship pendant, enamelled in white and green, the mother-of-pearl hull surmounted by three masts rigging and unfurled sails. On deck, guarded by cannons Venus is seated while her son Cupid, winged, stands behind her. A pearl hangs below the hull, as does the anchor. Suspension loop above. Second half of the 16th century.

  • This enamelled gold pendant represents 'The Pelican in her Piety', ca. 1550. It was believed that the mother pelican pierced her breast to feed her blood to her young. This was seen as a metaphor for Christ's sacrifice of his life. Weird stuff..

  • A Spanish gold and enamel horse pendant, circa 1600. The saddled horse, that once had a figure of Cupid sitting on its saddle, is set with rubies on one side, on the other with emeralds and hung with pearls. There is a charming detail in its making: the raised leg is hinged so that when moved, the horse appears to be pawing the air. Height 8.3cm, depth 4.2cm.
